Hi,

Going to Cascais / Portugal end of October. From the web I get Farol da Guia has reasonable bolt protection, however Baia Mexilhoeiro also seems to have some single pitches beyond the bouldering documented on UKC and I was interested in the conditions of bolts. Anyone with experience?

Any other special tips for the area also welcome of course.

Thanks in advance, thomas

In reply to tjekel:

The problem with Mexilhoeiro is not the bolts is the rock quality. Local climbers stopped climbing there because from time to time you see the bolts attached to a large piece of rock in the ground. In fact, you will find a sign saying that climbing is not allowed due to instability of the rock. Although this is largely ignore by boulderers. This is a pitty as the climbing was actually quite good.

Bolts in Farol da Guia are in good working condition. You should go to Guia Nova if climbing 7a/b. There is some nice routes there.

If you have a car forget Farol da Guia, cross the river and go to Arrabida. The views are great and the climbing is way way better.

email me if you need additional information about a certain crag.
