Rope between the legs

I see quite a number of climbers at my local wall starting routes with the rope between their legs, and their belayer standing a long way back. Is there a kinky S & M thing going on between them or is this just some sort of natural selection-esque practice?

I believe it's all clearly and concisely explained in this post...

My reading of that thread is that ropes are bad and all ropework decisions will result in arguments, therefore you are better off soloing.

That works too. Tea or coffee?

Very true. You never hear of anyone getting back stepped whilst soloing.

I have to say I hadn't noticed people starting climbs with the rope between there legs. I do see a fair few people heel hooking above the rope though, that seems best avoided to me.

Definitely tea. Milk, no sugar.

Oh, and a chocolate hobnob to go with it. Thanks.
