Anyone recommend a good cheapish front bike light that has a pulse mode. Not flashing, but on all the time and brightens intermittently.

Reliable and waterproof.

For always there attachment to a road bike. Smaller good, for being seen, not seeing by .

USB rechargeable much preferred.

THe only ones that I know that pulse are Exposure and they're not exactly cheap.
Loads of choice for small, cheap lights that flash. The bontrager ones are good - bright, tiny and rechargeable. I have one of those as a permanent fixture on my road bike, but when it's dark and for commuting I use an Exposure one (and a big Lezyne one too) but that still doesn't mean that they see you (viz. £600 bill for wheels driven over in the course of a left hook).

A pure flash is harder to determine distance by others. A constant on, with pulse is easier, but also noticeable by drivers.

Cateye volt have a pulse - really good lights. Small, rechargeable, waterproof, and pulse. I've got the 1200 and have been faultless so far.

Lezyne Femto Drive have a pulse mode - currently on offer in Halfords: http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-lights?brand=Lezyne

I have the front one as my emergency light.

Not rechargable, though - last for ages on 2x CR2032 coin cells.

Quite a few of the Cateye ones also on offer in Halfords, too - Volt 200 XC looks like a steal.

Cateye NanoShot+

Absolutely brilliant in all modes, plus USB chargeable.

I've got a Cateye volt. Great light, long battery life, good mount, lots of modes including pulse.

Aldi are doing some pretty decent ones at the moment that wont break the bank - but they tend to sell out pretty quickly.

In the end this is what I went for. No pulse, but generally quite good. And cheap.

+1 for the Cateye Volt. I have the 400 and its plenty good enough for me. Can pick one up for 30-40 quid.
