Planning consent was given for this hotel development some years ago; the NPA went against the advice of the officers on this (the heritage centre stuff was a sweetener to get support in the village, though to be fair to them the developers always seemed to be entirely serious about that aspect). The original developers lost their funding for the project quite recently, hence their putting it on the market as a development site. It's currently a rather scruffy "business park" on the site of old quarry buildings, whose major claim to fame up to now was the discovery of a crystal meth factory there ten years ago.
