Does anyone know whether an 80m single rope would be long enough for any route where we have to abseil in Costa Blanca? We're trying to figure out whether it will be necessary to pack a pair of 50s in addition to the 80, for multi pitch stuff.

Thanks for any info,

Chris

A fair number of multi pitch routes will require 50m abseils (and sometimes nearer 60m). There's also lots that will be fine to use an 80m single. Have you specific routes in mind?

I'd be surprised if you find a route that needs longer.

Multi-pitch wise the following are on the wish-list (although will probably only do a few of these):

Carillo-Cantabella
Derecha del Espolon
Todos los Santos
Tanit
Espolon Central
Gorilas en la Roca
Rowland's Magical Mystery Tour
Costa Blanca
Diedro UBSA
El navegante

Thanks,

Chris

The 3 Penon routes are walk offs.
Derecha del Espolon - about 25 & 30m ab after a short scramble / via ferrata
MMT - 40m abseil
Walk off from Espolon Central (although there's a bail out at pitch 8, not sure how long the abseils are though)

Not sure about the others.

Hi Chris,

Carillo-Cantabella (Descent walking)
Todos los Santos (around 50m length abseil or walking following white/green marks, 30 min)
Tanit (from the top go right to an small coll, abseil from a lower-of 20m)
Gorilas en la Roca (abesils around 50m; take care, ots of routes around that can confuse, including abseiling)

Enjoy

Hello David,
Your guide is excellent. We are heading to Orihulela in April for some easy multi-pitch climbs. Would you happen to have a English translation of your guide available?

Keep up the good work.

Hi Wayne,

I'm translating but slowly, I've got lots of things to do, but don't worry, I will finish.

Thanks a lot and enjoy the area.

This is a full-on 50metres to just about touch the ledge on full stretch. So a doubled 80metre rope will leave you dangling in air 10 metres above a sloping shale ledge with a further 60 metre (?) drop to the sea/rocks !

I'd use a pair of 60metre ropes for this route.

We were fine with 50s, had rope to spare on the abseil.
