Suggestions for a suitable sack for filling with rock and using as a soloing anchor, commercial offerings or otherwise?

I must be missing something. If you're soloing, what are you anchored to?

 Ruk      Sack

You will need a fare few rocks to fill a bag so that the weight of it is greater than yourself.

A large, big wall haul bag (expensive) or large caving bag maybe.

No idea how you intend to use but but get a 1 tonne bag:

I have to say, I think this thread might be quite interesting.

In reply to Oceanrower:   You must be missing something! The clue was in the question: sack full of rocks used as ANCHOR on a solo....

For solo leading or just to weight a top-rope whilst you shunt up?

In reply to trouserburp:   leading

Interesting. Do you need a lot of rocks

Perfect for the job I'd say and a snip at £12.  My biggest worry would be the impact of shifting the rock from the base of the crag and the disturbance that could cause.  Not a worry at Swanage put a bit invasive at Stanage

In reply to trouserburp:   80kg or so.

I am reminded of an anchor used by (some) canyoneers... a tarp, the four corners tied-in and bunched together, filled with rocks and gravel and sand, and a tagline tied to the center of the tarp. Once you've made the rappel on a single strand (anchored to the four corners), you tug on the tag and the gravel is shaken off the tarp, which you can then pull down.

An even more fun canyoneering anchor is a great big bucket, as water is nice and heavy and available in large quantities in many canyons (and some crags). You make a tiny hole in the bottom of the bucket, abseil quickly, then have your sandwiches at the bottom while the bucket empties. Pull and retrieve! What could possibly go wrong?
