Raven Crag (Yewdale)

Hey up,

Going for a gentle walk toward Tarn Hows at the weekend, I spotted what appeared to be a large pinnacle up in a gully on the SW side of Holme Fell, near Raven Crag, Yewdale. Does anyone know owt about it? Is it as big as it looks from across the valley? Has anyone climbed it?

It may be here: https://earth.google.com/web/@54.39431352,-3.05355985,245.52599225a,118.267...

Thanks!

If its the same one

Yewdale Pinnacle is mentioned in the guide. Dow,Duddon & slate

"All four aretes of this square based pyramid were climbed in the 1960"

One is graded S, other lines have been done but no details.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for this. That sounds correct! I had a look in my copy of the FRCC Scafell, Dow and Eskdale guide, but I don't have the Dow, Duddon and Slate guide. I thought it must have been climbed, as it looks quite sizeable. No mention of it on UKC, that I can find, so I presume it's not a classic...

Yes its a bit mossy but still climbable.

Years ago i put together a list of all the needles and pinnacles in the lakes to do as a challenge some day (still haven't done it)

there's quite a few esoteric ones like the Yewdalw one, as well as the classic ones.
