Taking climbing gear in hand luggage

Hi all,

Flying down to Bristol from Glasgow for some climbing in the South West over the first May bank holiday weekend and am trying to see if I can get away without taking any hold luggage to save costs. I don't plan on taking much (just a few cams), but just wondered if anyone has had any issues taking climbing gear in hand luggage before? The last thing I want is for my cams to be confiscated at security because the staff think it's dodgy or whatever. Obviously I know there's nothing dangerous about a few X4s but i don't know if the same could be said for the security staff.

I've not heard anything about this before but just want to be absolutely sure.

Cheers,

Hugh.

You've not heard anything about this before?  Where have you been living outer Mongolia?  There are hundreds of threads on UKC about this very subject.  They all relate different experiences but the bottom line and sum total of all those experiences is it's a risk and one that I personally would not take.

Yep, definitely should have searched on the forums first. Seems like it's pretty clear; definitely a risk. Cheers!

Daenerys Targaryen wouldn't like it.
