Kong Slyde and rope diameter

I am using the Slyde as an adjustable daisy with 9mm rope.

Despite tests at home when I slumped down on this today, at the crag, it slipped all the way to the knot.

Kong say 9-10mm

Does anyone have any experience with different rope diameters ?

Cheers

Im currently using 9.4 dynamic rope from an old rope i cut up.  no issues so far.Its unfortunate Kong doesnt sell this product with a tested rope.  like the Petzl devices

Different stiffness, sheath percentage, etc. etc. etc..  means you'd have to test out different combinations.

9.8 brand new rope was definitely too fat

8.2 dynamic rope was too skinny and it would flip on me.

As the rope gets worked I imagine new and stiff ones eventually become really nice to work with on the slyde and good ones eventually become too soft and risk inverting on you.

oh i wanted to clarify

did the rope just slide down all the way to the knot?

or did the strands invert and therefore could no longer lock?

You dead sure you have it threaded right?

9mm is good for us.

In reply to phil456: 9mm works fine for me also.

They inverted, by pulling hard it went back to how it should have been.

I can get some 9.5 and try that.

Thanks

Yes, double checked when I got home.

Wow,

I've been using new 9mm in mine and its been absolutely fine.  I started out with 8.1mm but found it too slick.

In reply to Jim Walton:

there are some reports of 9.1mm slipping/inverting

there are also people using sub 9mm and having no issues

i think this is because there is not a "recommended" (tested?) rope for the device

Petzl issues a warning on their connect adjust that you should be changing the rope, all bets are off if you do as far as they are concerned.

Lots of factors to consider i guess depending on exactly which rope you are using with it.

Shame that Kong doesnt sell this with some approved rope

I'm using Beal Verdon 9mm, works fine.  It can sometimes be a bit stiff to lengthen one handed, but not a problem.

In reply to TimH:

Beal Verdon is what I have been using, doing some tests today it seems that it inverts easily if the plate is at a slight angle and the “ pull in rope “ is also slightly  to one side. In hindsight I think that the Slyde was in against the rock which caused the problems.

I bought some 9.5mm and it was far too stiff to adjust.

Thanks all for the help

The Petzl connect adjust is much pricier, but I think it also handles much better, especially when it comes to lengthening the tether one-handed.
