What's the abseil length from the end of lockwoods chimney, ie before the final scramble - have seen figures of 45m and 50m quoted. I'll have 2 half ropes of 50m so obviously if it's 50 we're walking down but 45 then we're abbing.

Has anyone abbed off the ab point with a pair of 50m halfs

cheers

Even if the abseil is 50 m and you loose a bit of your "50 m" ropes due to knotting etc. you'd probably still be fine as manufacturers are usually a bit generous with rope and you will gain a fair few metres in stretch with a full 50 m of rope out.

I'd tend to recommend climbing the final pitch and walking off. the walk off is easy enough and the final pitch is quite pleasant,  I'm  not sure why the Rockfax description makes it sound a tad unpleasant.
