I'm in the process of translating a web page about crampons and wondered if the B1, B2, B3 classification system is applicable in France.  If not, what system is used instead to pair crampons with boots?  I have looked at a few French retailer sites and can't see any mention of B1/2/3 etc?  Thanks in advance if anyone can shed any light...

crampons either have a toe bail or a basket and your boots have either a toe welt or not. Toe bail+toe welt / basket + no toe welt. Some manufactures have names for each style eg grivel crampomatic and new classic. Generally you can tell from the picture.

Also some still fit better than others

THe whole B1, C1 thing was 'invented' by the Mountain Boot company (possibly by BRian Hall for the Mountain Boot company but Not 100% certain on that) in the UK who import Grivel Crampons and Scarpa Footwear. It's not a universally accepted or used system and is very much a UK thing.
