Less than £13k for a 20 year old at full time with multiple qualifications and prior experience? Why the difference in pay? I wasn't aware that being younger meant you ate less or paid lower rent.

If the person is qualified for the job they should be paid what the job deserves, not penalised for being young.

Some quick maths:
40 hrs per week x 52 weeks (some of those hours will be anti-social hours eg late evenings, sundays) = 2080 hrs p/a. I assume 5 weeks holiday, so let's be generous and take off the 200 hours there.

So for working 1880 hrs per year, a 20 year old would be paid £12,688, or £6.75/hr. After tax this is £11,716, or £6.23 per hour.

Well done for offering money toward qualifications though - more than some centres. Sadly, the pay takes the mick. As mentioned, you're saying it's essential they hold a qualification in instructing, which will have set them back a few hundred quid, plus logbook hours. Plus insisting on working 5 weekend days per month, so most months they will have one full weekend free to go and climb.

Looks like no pay boost for skilled work either - I used to work for the Depot and whilst they paid minimum for front of house/coffee making etc, you got £10 per hour for any coaching or introductory sessions etc meaning you ended up with a fair bit more in your pocket at the end of the month.

Of course, it's also worth pointing out that anyone who has a RIA and Foundation coach plus D1 could easily be earning £100-£150 a day freelance for a good chunk of the year working at outdoor centres etc.
