Thanks for that Alastair: worth knowing about now the season's nearly upon us

In reply to Alastair MacSween:

It has been there for a while now, and amazingly has survived two winters without the big boulder being swept to the Coire floor. When I saw it first I thought a strong wind would blow it over, but it's still there and I've even seen folk use it as a belay, although I wouldn't trust it myself.

Good reminder that mountain crags suffer a lot with freeze thaw action.

On the same subject I altered the geography of the rib right of the Vent whilst running away from a damp Ventricle. The large block with tat around it, I think the last belay of Vent Rib Direct before it joins the top of the Vent, is mostly no more and I wouldn't trust the remnants unless definitely frozen in.

>altered the geography

there's a euphemism if ever I've heard one!
