 UKC News 25 Oct 2018
Jim Pope has repeated Seb Grieve's Meshuga, E9 6c at Black Rocks, Derbyshire. The route is a bold, monolithic test piece that has seen off many attempts, ending in groundfalls and injury on more than one occasion.

Excellent work and a good write up.

It's just a shame that Jim felt the need to resort to using 'send' and it would appear that the top rope has been photoshopped out?

In reply to UKC News:

Presumably the photos aren't from the successful attempt as he's not wearing a helmet, which he mentions he needed?

Top stuff from a strong lad!

No it says at the bottom that they're from top rope practice.. despite the lack of any rope, top or otherwise. I hope that it's not this beady eye that has encouraged the dislikers who thought it was the successful attempt..

Has this ever been done onsight, flashed or ground up?

Or have all ascents been after practice?

In reply to UKC News:

Well done bruva! Congrats young Jim!

Great job fella!

Don't think so but I think a certain Sheffield climber did it in his socks once....

No. I think it will be a very long time before this happens - just not that sort of route!

If you're going to hijack a thread, at least make it less f*cking banal.

To the topic of the thread. Great achievement. Hard Grit lines seem to be less newsworthy these days and I guess rightly so. But it is still nice to see them being done.

I think I may dig out my DVD this evening! Top work Jim!

In reply to Michael Gordon:

Maybe a long time until the onsight but a flash should be fairly doable if the beta is a video (and assuming you have the balls for it )

If Sav didn’t post on every news thread implying he was best mates with who ever made the news. I wouldn’t be commenting.

If he just used a tiny percentage of that time to go climbing, he might go some way to achieving his dreams.

That's the theory but there's still a massive difference when you don't know the feel of the holds and without any mental/muscle memory of the moves, on a physical route which basically is a solo. And there's the knowledge of two top climbers who fell off on lead despite practising it to their heart's content.

I didn’t realise that you only were allowed to post what was acceptable to you.

I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

You can post whatever you like, and anyone else can reply and tell you not to be such an ass.

Would be going climbing if my I had new shoes but I am sure people know that Adidas has purchased Five Ten and Adidas sponsor Drill music artists....

Drill is associated with all the stabbings in London.

The other reason is that I have some very sad news to share with  Users tomorrow.

Saw this on Channel 4. Quotes from serving MPs as Drill lyrics.

In reply to Mountain Spirit:

Yes really. Various music genres have been blamed for violence over the decades, along with console games, books and other art forms. In the occasional case it may influence individuals, but overall it's nonsense.

Awesome effort.

Out of interest, was there any report on the use of mats for the ascent? Was walking past Meshuga when they were setting up a top rope on Wednesday, but didn't stick around long enough to see the ascent so was just wondering if the pads that were brought along were used?
