Climbing Axes

Hi everyone,  Was wondering why a climbing axe can't be used on different surfaces as opposed to ice, i.e. as an assist when usual rock climbing. Just wanted to know the actual reasons behind it, haha, thanks!

Rock no. Historic monuments, statues, anything in sprayed concrete absolutely fine.
