Ironic how as soon as he finishes it, he slides down a slope and no more than 3 steps later, nearly twists his ankle.

Very impressive climbing.

In reply to GHawksworth:

thankfully he was wearing walking boots with ankle support

In reply to MischaHY:

you'd think with his sponsers,  someone would have given him a chalk bag

In reply to MischaHY:

Is he soloing a 7b or a highballing a 7B as it suggests in the video?

In reply to La benya:

I think the perspective is perhaps skewed, there's a fair few quickdraws on the line so it can't be that short.

I’m sure you’re right. It was more a comment on using the wrong notation for sport routes- little b. Big B is for a Boulder.

And how tragic it would have been if he'd slipped on the route because he was wearing trainers - shades of Jimmy Jewel

Not sure what he's trying to prove here

I doubt Dave Mac is trying to prove anything here. He's being paid to do something he loves. stabbing in the dark i'd guess he has even climbed and soloed that particular route multiple times just for the hell of it. Might as well take a few quid off of goretex (and ME?) to do what he does anyway

In reply to Bulls Crack:

The route in question is essentially arms only, no edging or smearing involved.

Anyone strong enough to climb it at all can probably also climb it in skiing boots, high heels or flippers. Frankenjura (where I learned climbing) is full of such routes!

I expect he could campus that route as easily as he can do it in his trainers.

Maybe not prove something but it's not clever and one of the reasons I usually like Dave M's stuff is that it is intelligent and thoughtful

Also it's not even raining! No need for gore-tex  then.

I think I feel my age the most when I am faced with a jump down onto a rocky slab. Knees........

I like the ending! Nice bit of humour for a change.

Thought that was a brilliant film.
