Hi, we’re planning a ski tour based in Akureyri going out for day tours into the Troll peninsula in April.

it seems to be V difficult to find maps for the area, any ideas.

I think I’m getting the partial Troll pen area1:200K Ferdakort map from a Czech source on EBay but this is a pretty poor scale for skiing with.

Any one got any better advice?

thanks, Keith

1:100k maps available at Stanfords:

http://www.stanfords.co.uk/Eyjafj%C3%B6r%C3%B0ur_9789979331346

and

There is a set of 4 1:50k sheets covering the peninsula but I believe they are out of print.

You are very welcome - despite the price, they are printed on rubbish paper, so it is worth getting them laminated, or at least putting sticky tape on the back of the folds before use!

I have made some notes on (easy) tours in the area - PM me if you would like a copy.

1:50,000 maps are available at bookshops in Iceland. 2 of them cover most of the peninsula and are expensive but worth getting.

https://www.penninn.is/is/book/gonguleidir-trollaskaga-ll

They have branches in Reykjavik and Akureyri (and others)

Anyone have any details on snow cover and depth?

Has it been average? Above? Below?

Thinking about a trip in spring.

You can pick them up there at any bookshop. We brought ours in Aukeryeri. We  used them along with Fatmap. There is an avalanche forecast but it’s for the general area and covers a few days. Best to make your own decisions on what you see. It’s an amazing place with so much skiing.

Enjoy
