I remember buying one of these from UKC many years ago but can a) no longer find it in real life & b) can't see it on the site. Is it still here, or has it died a death?

Can anyone recommend a decent guide for the ridge that does what it's supposed to as long as the person reading it has a brain and some common sense?

I think you mean this one Martin - https://www.rockfax.com/climbing-guides/miniguides/skye-ridge/

Quite old now and originally designed for running the ridge, but it seems popular because of the detailed maps.

There is a new guide out which from a quick flick through the other day looked to be quite comprehensive on the ridge so much so I thought it might take the fun out of it?

According to the blurb "This guidebook utilises 50 annotated topo-diagrams to describe the Cuillin Ridge in greater detail than ever before"

Gordon’s from his Cuillin book is very good. I can send you a pdf if you email me; Gordon’s said on here several times he doesn’t mind.

I've found Skye Scrambles (SMC Scramblers' Guide) useful and gives walks, scrambles and a few climbs up to VD all over Skye.

The description in the current SMC Cuillin guide is spot on.

Excellent description here  https://www.smc.org.uk/publications/scrambling/skye

Quote "The traverse of the main ridge of the Cuillin is fully described and new diagrams have been created to show the crucial sections".

Not for the first time, I am sensing ‘Subtle’ is a somewhat ironic username...😁
