I had someone in the wall tonight who had bought a Xinda harness off the Web.

I had a quick look at it as it seems to be very much like ones that recently been on sale on amazon but are not en rated.

This one did have a en 12277 no. on it.

Does anyone know anything about them so I can advise them either way.

Thanks

It's very like this one:

No rules in the gym about having certified equipment?

To me, it's just a big warning sign to never go climbing with that person.

Easy enough for an unscrupulous factory to fake a label...

I showed them this article on ukc:

https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/features/online_budget_gear_-_the_peril...

Someone else a few months ago (another newbie)  had the harness in that very article.

I tried to educate them on the health and safety regs and how reputable companies test all of their equipment. How cheap imports from China may not conform to these strict tests. But it's hard to stop people with little knowledge buying these online.

Our wall is an unmanned, it was just lucky i was in when they were.

I'd be very wary about any personal safety gear from China. Sometimes they're sneaky and mark things 'CE' certified (but the 'CE' stands for 'Chinese Export'!). Also, knockoff gear is all the rage in a lot of East Asia.

One way of checking is to look up the certified body on the label, and see if they have actually certified that product or if the label is faked.

I'd be very wary of buying anything from that brand, as they are subject to 2 alerts on the EU rapid alert website for non compliant helmets: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/consumers_safety/safety_products/rapex/alert...
