I was at St Mary's in leisure centre in Southampton the other night for a short session on the climbing wall to be confronted with notice for the impending closure of the centre - the only council run centre in this part of this city. Clearly Southampton shitty council feel that using last years obscene council tax hike to lace the nearby roundabout with dozens of new and unnecessary sets of traffic lights is more important than encouraging the huge number of fat people that live here to do any exercise.

The destruction of this wall will may mean the first time the holds have ever been moved, but it is useful for training and it is warm in winter (unlike Calshot). There is normally lots of people doing climbing or other sports whenever I am there. There is a petition against the closure at the centre if anyone else here feels the closure will agrieve them also...
