Anyone heading to Tasmania in 2020 or 2021?

I'd like to travel Tasmania and possibly Melbourne to climb in the next 16 months or so - anyone heading out there?  Preferably when it's cold here and warm there, of course... So our winter months.

Thanks,
JRZ

Re: Melbourne and Victoria in general - do a search around 'Grampians access issues' - there's a lot of tension between climbers and Parks Victoria (the organisation that manages the national parks) around access to climbing venues at the moment.

Re: timing - problem with avoiding the winter months in the UK is you get the really hot Australian summer months.  Aside from having to drop grades due to the sweat factor, there's also the risk of Bushfires, or crags being closed to recover from bushfires.  (This happened to me in 2014 when I lived in Australia - was hoping to climb at the Grampians over Easter, but most of the crags were closed due to fires a few months earlier)

Whilst the above sounds quite negative, there is some great climbing in Australia - just not quite as simple (or cheap) as a climbing trip to Spain in winter.

You'll be able to find partners out there: check out the forum on http://www.chockstone.org/Forum/Forum.asp for a start.

For Tasmania specifically, good sites are http://www.thesarvo.com and https://climbtasmania.com.au/ - the forum on the first of those doesn't seem to be working just now though.

Enjoy your trip.

Yes, just carry on as normal.

That would be poor advice, and I'm not suggesting it. (Nor, of course, do I know what is 'normal' for you, the OP, or any other anonymous individual posting on forums like these.) I was just giving a straight answer to a straight question.

Yes, but we do know that the weather is not normal in Tasmania, Melbourne and Calpe.

Yes indeed.
