It's lovely!  Very laidback and easy to get around.  Lots of cafes, good food.

Hi Deadeye, I lived in Mozambique for 3 years, its amazing place with stunning beaches if your feeling adventurous.

For Maputo, usual big city precautions apply, being alone in quiet areas at night not so recommended etc. But I never had any issues there and would say it was fairly safe, chaotic and fun.  But given the choice I'd spend my time elsewhere in the country.

Outside Maputo is where the magic happens and the country is very safe, warm, welcoming and friendly.  If you get the chance you should go to Inhambane (6 hour drive).

Message me if you want any advice.

I'll be going to Inhambane!  And then on to Tofo.  Only in Maputo for about 2 1/2 days in all.  Had read some stuff about armed robbery and corrupt police, so a reassuring view is welcome.  Any particularly great things in Maputo?

I never really explored it beyond looking for the cheapest bars and getting rice and beans in the market.

Oh! there was a museum with the worlds only collection of elephant feti by month of gestation.

Thanks for that.  My horizon is suitably expanded.
