Daydreaming of places to climb after covid/lockdown all has been lifted. Has anyone climbed around Barcelona? Wouldn't mind driving out an hour or two from there. Preferably sport routes and any insight on places to stay as well would be appreciated!

Also a guide book recommendation would be stellar.

Cheers!

Roughly 2 hours from Barcelona (probably less on toll roads) will get you to Cornudella de Montsant which is an ideal location pretty much in the centre of the climbing region Tarragona. More quality sport than you could climb in many lifetimes. Siurana is probably my favourite but there are other amazing areas. The guidebook Tarragona climbs is great and will introduce you to the different areas all within ~1hour of Cornudella and then each area has its own comprehensive guide too.

Pretty sure this will have been covered many times in the forums so have a quick search and I'm sure you'll find all the info.

Enjoy

There's a lifetime of climbing within an hour or two of Barcelona! There's pics and beta on about 50 crags here: https://rockaroundtheworld.co.uk/category/spain/catalunya/

In terms of guidebooks, obviously there's the Rockfax, and it's also worth giving a shout out for the two POD guides. Perhaps less well known is the ClimbAround app - it's free and has info on a bunch of crags not covered in either of the above.

You might look at the free climb around app... It has many of the bigger and smaller areas availlable.

Montserrat (conglomerate), La Mola de Sant llorenç (conglomerate), and Garraf (polished limestone) are closest to Barcelona.

The topos for la Mola:

http://www.santllors.com/sector.php?id=209&zona=1

You will find topos for a variety of sectors in that link, Font soleia concentrates most sport routes,  some  in the shade, routes seem hard for the grade, graded by locals.

I would stick to the shade if you are coming in these hot months.

In Garraf beware off car thieves and the approaches can be difficult to find.

If you have time go further afield I recommend it, go to Montral which is in the sierra de Prades, closer to Tarragona than Barcelona, great hut there and good but cold swimming spot near the river sector.

Then there is Margalef , Siurana etc, all in the Tarragona climbs guide book.

Loads of places, too many.

Have fun
