Hi people

I am interested to purchase trad climb crag rucksack and I saw the adv on UKC of Rogue 48 Backpack, thinking to get one.

https://lowealpine.com/uk/rogue%2048

I like the idea of rapid access.

I did not enjoy taking forever to look for something at the bottom of the rucksack or have to take everything out before I could reach the bottom.

Have anyone have it or similar could share experience, please

Hi Kimmie,

Alan recently reviewed the Rogue and really rated it, saying it was "the pack I have been wanting for [his] entire climbing career" (quite a statement!). I reviewed its sportier cousin, the Outcast, which I thought undersold itself as a sport sack, being more than capable enough for days out on big British mountain crags.

Interestingly I hadn't actually got to see the Rogue properly until a few weeks ago and must admit a pang of jealousy. I love the hinge/fold design of the Outcast, but the back system access of the Rogue really was neat - plus the extra volume wouldn't go amiss.

Here's a link to both, but give us a shout if you've got any questions.

I really rate the BD Creek 50. I personally like the fact that it stands up and you can just drop all your kit into it. I had a DMM Vector before which was similar and was gutted when that died and I DMM had just discontinued it! I even tried to get hold of one from DMM but no joy.

I won a DMM Flight https://dmmclimbing.com/Products/Bags-Accessories/Flight-BC21 (clamshell design similar to the Outcast linked above) in a climbing comp a few years ago and I now absolutely love it. Previously I used traditional POD top-loading single compartment rucsacs and I probably wouldn't have bought the Flight myself.

Now I'd buy another similar one straight away when it wears out. The two compartments are great and make things so much easier at the crag. Probably not the best for long walk-ins, but I've got plenty of other rucsacs for those if needed.

The models have mostly changed but his will give you some ideas. https://www.ukclimbing.com/gear/rucksacks/medium/crag_packs_for_trad_climbe... I still use the Arcteryx one all the time and mate still used the Grivel one all the time. They are both much grubbier than 8 years ago but otherwise still going strong.

Thanks, Mark,

My friend got one and they love it.

DMM Flight is a great design, but I don't find it comfortable for me, it seems a bit too big for my body shape.

Good that your point it out that might not suit for a long walk!!

I've just ordered the Black Diamond Stone 45 after ripping a large hole in my old bag.

Seems to fit the balance right with having a solid well fitted alpine pack, large capacity and full side zip for easy access.

Also on sale at epic tv currently:

Not super ergonomic and I forgot to mention that the waist straps were ridiculously long to start with. However I cut them down and the nice chap with a sewing machine in the Alpkit shop helped me out by stitching the ends again.

Thanks for the share, I enjoy the useful chat here and learn more..

Ripping a large hole in your old bag! it would be an interesting story.

The Black Diamond Stone 45, it seems a lightweight and comfortable design good for a long walk as well, large capacity and full side zip for easy access, I believe that keep you happy every time when you were rush to leave the crag with all your gear.

I've been using the BD Stone for a few years now (also on endless quest for the perfect climbing pack). Have to say I've *never* used the side zip despite that being a feature I was keen on when I bought it. The pack also seems to be getting less comfortable with age, I suspect it's just a bit too long in the back for me, and that I'm shrinking!

Hi Jon

Thanks for sharing

That is a good point on durable material.

My existing pack is Mutant 38Backpack; youtube.com/watch?v=PAF9yZJ1F34&

It does the job, but I just wanted to delete the memories that I have to get things out from the bottom after I packed.  Anyway, time to upgrade and have a taste of the new technology design.

The Rogue 48 has the aluminium frame for strength and the rest sounds cover most of my requests on this introduction video:   youtube.com/watch?v=vIuCLtitkm4&

I am going to order it, hopeful, it could fit me well.  I will share the review for the pack.
