I have bought a Brother Scanner.  I have followed the installation instructions, downloaded drivers put in Wifi numbers etc. etc.,  and see I a picture of it in the control panel under Devices. 

However, it won't scan and no scanner software "sees", with messages like "no scanner detected".  Any ideas before I throw it out of the window?

Similar experiences with a Brother all in one printer / scanner / copier thing (small consumer one). Absolutely fine on printing (if a little ink-thirsty) and going strong after five years but will not scan via wi fi despite best efforts. ebygomm of this parish had the same model and the same issue. The shonky workaround is to just scan to USB directly at the unit, which isn’t bad given that you have to be at the unit to load the document to be scanned
