I have to admit to never having read one of his novels, or watched any of the films based on the novels of John le Carre. However, I am pleased to see that he was quoted as saying "Nationalism is quite different from patriotism. For nationalism you need enemies." Very wise words. Now that we can't blame all our woes on Brussels and the EU, all we have left are the enemies within. Brace yourself for attacks on traitors like the judiciary, the BBC, asylum seekers, Black Lives Matter and the Windrush community. In fact such attacks have already started, with our wonderful Home Secretary complaining about "activist" lawyers who dare to attempt to uphold the rights of people born and raised in the UK who are threatened with deportation to their "home country" in which they've never set foot. We seem to be following the example of those pariah nations of the EU, Poland and Hungary, and also of Turkey with whom we have just struck a trade deal despite the imprisonment of journalists and the hobbling of the judiciary. Did we learn nothing from the 1930s?
