Hiya is there a name for the technique shown in this video?: youtube.com/watch?v=tcLKraPQsyg&

- specifically how the climber is straddling and shuffling along the ridge.

It's called "a cheval."

I've always known it as "À Cheval" (i.e. on a horse).

A Cheval is correct. It's closely related to 'Ledge Humping' which is shown below.

In reply to Flinticus:

Word derives from french word for horse so 'a cheval' means astride a horse

In reply to Priday:

Yes, “a cheval”. My francophobe friend preferred to call it “horsey-horsey” on Stonnis Arête.

In reply to lpretro1:

I know that (I did French in school) but its a tad pretentious for basically shuffling along on your bum. I'd look askance at anyone using this expression. Perhaps its a class thing, like cow versus beef, pig pork etc. Those damn aristocratic Normans!

'horsey-horsey' is fine
