Any recommendations for an approach shoe with a stiff sole for scrambling that come in a wider fit? I tend to go for Kayland or Dolomite for boots (as they come up nice and wide).

I've only got a Go Outdoors near me so I'm limited on what I can try in the shops, but I'm going to be in the Lakes briefly next week so got a chance to try some more specialist shops (I don't like to buy shoes online).

Surprisingly, La Sportiva tx4’s fit my wide forefoot well.

Exactly what I was going to say. I find most Sportiva approach shoes - most approach shoes in general in fact - too narrow, but TX4's half a size up from my normal street shoe size fit me perfectly.

Always wear La Sportiva as I have narrow feet, and can also confirm that the TX4's are pretty wide, worse fitting pair of La Sportiva shoes/boots I have, so you should be fine! (Great shoe for scrambling though)

Scarpa Crux - I've got one foot that's a problem (Hallux Valgus) that needs plenty of width and they work for me.

Historically Karrimor jobs were the best for me - not much wider than things, but certainly shorter in the toebox so when they fitted the width you didn't feel like you were wearing winklepickers.  I believe they were actually re-badged Garmonts, so it may be worth looking at Garmonts if you can find any?

I've had Sportiva Boulder X and.now have TX4's. For scrambling and climbing I much prefered my Boulder X tbh. I just don't find the TX4's to be anywhere near as supportive. I'm generally happy climbing up to HVS (grit) in Boulder X but TX4's just don't work as well.

TX4 are probably better as an approach shoe and are less bulky on a harness, but just not as good on routes, nor is the lacing system as good as that on the Boulder X.

Hanwag Makra are made on their Alpine Wide last and fit me very well and suit me for all high alpine paths I have traveled.

Watch out not to get the Makra Urban they're just trainers.

Scarpa Zodiacs are a nice fit for the wider foot. Bit too stiff for some and not cheap but they're built to last.

As per other posts I've got La Sportiva TX4s half a size above my usual street size.

Interestingly I bought some TX5 mids given how well the TX4s fitted but they were completely different, seemingly narrower and lower volume.
