Doing his thing, alone and without oxygen.

Saw a short documentary of his first effort: seems to know his limits and understand the challenge - wish him good fortune!

Didn't someone else do this a few year back?  Not in the winter though but in the summer.  Walked all the way from sea level on the Indian coast un-supported to get the full altitude in.

Tim McCartney-Snape walked from the Bay of Bengal and summitted Everest in May 1990 as a solo climb. 

Impressive as that is, a winter solo ascent is a considerably more demanding proposition.

Someone else did it from the Dead Sea, a sort of sit start.

Göran Kropp cycled from Sweden to Everest and made an ascent without bottled O2 in the infamous 1996 season.
