Google Earth

On several occassions I have had reason to search on Google Earth for a particular village in France. The name of the village is Bareges.

I enter the name ("Bareges, France") in the search box (top, left hand corner of Google Earth page) When I click on the magnifying glass symbol to the right it takes me to somewhere in Antarctica, tens of thousands of miles away. This seems to happen every time but only with this particular place name.

Does anyone know what is causing this or what can be done about it?

Thanks.

Can you search by postcode? / Lat/Long?

Probably, but shouldn't need to. Don't always have the post code/LatLong accessible

Do you mean "Google Earth" the app in the app store, or Google Maps?

Google Maps works fine for me with that search.

Try adding the postal code 65120 to your search string, or camping La Ribera. Your original search works for me though in Google Earth.
Sounds like a Cache/ History problem on your device, or possibly if your are signed in Google, its what Google thinks you want.

or put "NOT Antarctica"

Takes me straight to the right place (Using Google Earth Pro on a Mac).

I could understand it if there were two places of the same or similar names.

Just tried it, no capitals, accents or , France. Just bareges. Took me straight there.

Tried Barèges, France. That worked fine too.

Same for me. If you type just "bareges" Google Earth takes you to the place in France. If you type in "Barèges, France" I end up in Antarctica.

In reply to Bojo:  Nope, can confirm it's not just you.  You get a list of suggestions, and I tried Bareges bike park... back to Antarctica

Bareges, France -- goes to France

Barèges, France -- goes to Antarctica

I think you've found a wormhole!  Maybe if Scott had known he could have got out of the weather and nipped home...
