Thinking of going to this valley in a couple of weeks for some multi pitch sport. Seems like they have a good spread of grades and I've heard generally good things about it.

Would be interested in hearing any opinions on it as a venue. We are struggling to find a guide book at the moment but should be able to resolve that.

Only thing im concerned about is the temperature. At the moment its 30 degrees which is pretty spicy for long days on exposed cliffs. Hoping this might be more manageable the higher you get off the valley floor with the wind but maybe that is wishful thinking...

Anyway, any thoughts welcome!

I know a bit about it, I've lived there. PM me and I'll send you my phone number.

I'll be climbing there myself in September.

A bit separately, the heat wave is terrible, if you're going high at all (or even committing sport climbs lower down) be very wary of the conditions, there are huge thunderstorms and it's very unpredictable.

Search the threads, there's a link to the new sport climbing guide in Aosta.

Assume you mean this guide?

any tips on where we can pick up a copy in person? Heading out on the 9.15 Calais ferry tomorrow so no chance of ordering it in advance! We were thinking of hitting Chamonix before Monte Rosa but the thunderstorms look terrible as of Monday…

I bought a copy of it today in Aosta from here https://www.google.com/maps/place/Libreria+Aubert/@45.7359909,7.3158805,15z...

Is very comprehensive and in English!

There's SO much climbing - about 140 crags at all elevations and orientations, so you should certainly be able to mitigate the heat. We had a couple of weeks there in October, so we were chasing the sun rather than seeking shade, but you'll find some relevant beta here: https://rockaroundtheworld.co.uk/2020/10/15/aosta-round-up-more-rock-than-y...

and here: https://rockaroundtheworld.co.uk/category/italy/northern-italy/

Enjoy! Cheers, Dom
