What would you kill first, 100 ticks or 1000 midges?

In reply to JLS:

Ticks with Lyme's disease.  1000 midges is just a normal Scottish summer afternoon.

The order is irrelevant, I'd kill 'em all if I could!

Ticks. Though I'm not sure I fancy my chances against 100 of them.

Would you have the patience to deal with the ticks while the midge were having a go?

Depends where they were biting. If a tick climbed up me leopard skin whilst jetting into orbit, I would carefully dismember it…

Neither.

For sure it'll be that purple velociraptor that's been whispering death threats and stalking me for days now

Just tell that Dominic Cummings to feck off and go to SpecSavers.  That’s him , not you.

As a "back of a smidge packet" calculation, I reckon I've killed several thousand ticks, both personally and professionally, over twenty years or so. God knows how many midges, but I suspect many of them were just stunned or playing dead.

Thankfully repellents are quite effective these days compared to the pre 90s days. Ticks have really boomed in numbers though and obviously a lot more dangerous. My pet hate and choice of destruction though would be "the cleg" or horse fly. They really are the helicopter gunships of the highland insect world.

Professionally? Like a paid hit?

A midge lives for about a month max. A Tick lives for 2 years.

So REALLY, a single tick is to the power of 24 midges.

Not just Lymes. They seem to specialise in passing around evil diseases. Alpha-gal for example (unless you want to cut down on meat eating).

Just look at the list:
