Beal belay safe tube

Hi.

After any comments from people who have used one in a teaching environment.

Plus would anyone with the skills and materials like to help develop a double rope version? My logic being double ropes are even harder for the beginner (and such a device would allow safe practice) , in an instructing setting there are often two seconds (one on each rope). I often get both to belay (one on each rope), this would allow more realistic double rope practice.

Thanks!

I've not used one but teach lots with two seconds. Normally I would either get them to both belay like you do or if they are practicing belaying with two ropes I just get the third person to tail the ropes.

Couldn't you just have the backup person use two tubes, one for each half rope?

They don't look failsafe to me. A nervous belayer could easily rest their hand on the tube, or caught in clothing while the rope is whistling through. Much more so than a grigri.

I don't really see the point of a double version.

If a person is ready to move on to half ropes, I don't see that a back up of that nature is really necessary.

If you've got two climbers, one can back up the other anyway.

Confused, how does having a rope each give a realistic double rope practice?

Wouldn't one of these be better -> Edelrid Mega Jul

I think that was just confusing English on my part? By "This" I mean use of the tube thing by the third person

Yep, could be a better off the shelf solution. Thanks
