Zepparella?
Fabarella, thanks. The guitarist also does a tastefully lit cover of J. S. Bach.
A good answer, also Jazz Sabbath, Adam Wakeman
Australian Pink Floyd.
Hayseed Dixie get my vote.
But I'm going to leave this here instead: youtube.com/watch?v=3f5HDjjzwqo&

This lot do a brilliant version of The Musical Box, if the link doesn't work youtube The watch Musical Box
GUGUG aka Gus and Fin get my vote. Here they are doing the Ramones on their trusty ukuleles:

Once saw a band called Rockmungous in the White Hart Inn near Newnham when I was over there bore surfing a (good) few years ago.
They were pretty good musicians - mostly covers, some their own material - and a good laugh, too.
Top chaps.
Pygmy Twilight, based in Scotland, do great Zappa covers.
The Ukulele Orchestra of Britain of course…
Here they are with their great version of Teenage Dirtbag

My pal's wife paid £109 for a VIP soundcheck experience for their Edinburgh gig next November. I know you can't see the real thing anymore but that's absolutely ridiculous.
> My pal's wife paid £109 for a VIP soundcheck experience for their Edinburgh gig next November. I know you can't see the real thing anymore but that's absolutely ridiculous.
I’ve seen them a couple of times, they are absolutely brilliant. But maybe I’m easily pleased
I've seen them soundcheck, but not as a VIP. (I'm only a P.)
Incidentally I heard Dave Gilmour doing an interview on the radio a few years ago, he was asked about the Aussie Pink Floyd are said they're better than the real Pink Floyd ever were back in the day.
Best ever name for a covers band must be Midget Rigid Digits.
Elvana
Elvana are great. In the words of the front man:
"I may be a shit Elvis impersonator, but I do a mean Nirvana. Uh-huh"
Nah, it's some mates of mine from Liege: 98%

I've been trying to teach them how to pronounce three correctly for years
Surely Led Zeppelin themselves are a great covers band?
> How about the most famous Beatles cover band of all time?
> Oasis
Or even The Rutles. Neil Innes was a genius.
The absolute, undisputed greatest cover band is ....... The Who!
They only reputedly ever covered one song but, it's the best version of one of the all-time greatest rock and roll songs ever made
Well if one song does it, let's hear it for these cover bands
The Clash:
youtube.com/watch?v=FKIzjF25sP8&
or, for that matter, The Bobby Fuller Four:
youtube.com/watch?v=OgtQj8O92eI&
and Thin Lizzy:
Leonid and Friends cover Chicago superbly!
Yee Loi
These boys' cover versions went down quite well back in the day:
London Symphony Orchestra, they're a "cover band" right???
Roll bread /bait comment for all those classical music nuts we seem to have on the forum
> London Symphony Orchestra, they're a "cover band" right???
Not as good as The Danish National Symphony Orchestra:

My sister's in the LSO and she'll love that one when I tell her :-D
In the meantime, my favourite cover band is The Melodica Men who have a highly entertaining YouTube channel. Example here:
Going a bit left-field here but one of my faves is the French covers band Nouvelle Vague who have some fantastic interpretations of the original tunes youtube.com/watch?v=kcljHWUqLVA&
The Who also covered Young Man's Blues and Shakin' All Over on Live at Leeds. They did a version of The Last Time in support of the Stones when they were being charged over drugs offences (the Marianne Faithful incident I think), and they also did a great cover of Baby Don't You Do It. Probably some others as well.
They must have had a change of heart (early 70's?). On one version of Summertime Blues (late 60's?), Daltrey actually tells the audience that they only cover this one song. I still think their version is better than Buddy Holly's original.
Buddy Holly?
> Buddy Holly?
You're quite right! Great as he was, it was Eddie Cochran of course. He died just after I was born and Holly just before but I still think they are streets ahead of much of the stuff I hear that's 'popular' with young people nowadays. Has rock and roll really died?
Looks like a bit of a Who night on sky arts tonight!
> Looks like a bit of a Who night on sky arts tonight!
I saw your post and switched over for a look. I didn't stay long. It's not The Who in particular but, in general, I find 'old rockers' a bit underwhelming. They are almost always a shadow of themselves in their angry, energetic (relevant?) prime. How can a 70-something rip it up like a 20-year-old? I think if you're a die-hard, faithful fan though, then even the older version will be enough. I was lucky to be a teenager when live music was easily available and affordable with lots of different genres to latch onto. I was greatly into hard/heavy rock and saw some huge (or soon to be) bands. I suppose if you wanted to catch a glimpse of your heroes in their prime then a good cover band might fit the bill? I've never been that bothered to go and watch one myself.
I totally agree, I've got some great memories that I don't want tarnished. However having said that I would be tempted to go and see Iggy or Cave again though, because they're still doing new stuff.
I saw the Who in 1975 when they were at their peak. Best concert I’ve ever been to. Recent performances are pale shadows of their youth!
I never saw The Who. I wasn't really aware of them touring in the late seventies when I was a student watching lots of bands. I knew they were very, very Loud though! It's a wonder I can still hear when it took days for my ears to stop ringing after a typical concert.
So did I, October 5/6 apparently, at Belle Vue Manchester, on the Who by Numbers tour, thanks to Wikipedia. Found an audio recording on YouTube as well.
£109 for a cover band!?!?!? Mental.
I've seen The Flaming Lips lots of times. Sometimes they do a thing where they sound check after the support and it it gradually morphs into the gig.
There should be one called Lava https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magma_(band)#:~:text=Magma%20is%20a%20French%.... 😂
I saw them on the same tour in Glasgow about 10 days later. Queued all night for a ticket
The Swedish Chef with his legendary cover of Hot Butter’s “Popcorn”.
I've never seen that, it's fabulous. Decent version lol, thanks.
Maybe tastefully lit but a rather underwhelming performance from a professional guitarist of a Grade 7 classical piece. As a cover artist she’d best stick to her day job.
The Heimatdamisch are very good

You can't go wrong with The Clash but I think this version is the best:

In reply to
> "I may be a shit Elvis impersonator, but I do a mean Nirvana. Uh-huh"
Nah, just "shit"
Jim 'The King' Brown did it better. (On his 1998 concept Album 'Gravelands'.)
> Pygmy Twilight, based in Scotland, do great Zappa covers.
Their singer - Jim - used to be the singer in my Grateful dead tribute 'wildflower seed' 8 or 9 years ago. He's very good so naturally at the time we were the world's greatest 'Dead' covers band
G2
Chromatics best songs are all slowed down covers, Into The Black and I'm on Fire are good.
Best name of a tribute band goes to Paramore or Less.
> The Heimatdamisch are very good
They are brilliant. I have really enjoyed listening to a few of their covers, especially Jump, Highway to Hell and So Lonely, oompah style.
