Daughter has just got her first decent (second hand) bike.

Is it best to put on house insurance or a specialist.  The wiggle quote is 40% of the price of the bike!

40% of the price of the bike is ridiculous. I'm covered by PedalSure for a £2500 bike for £150 quid or so a year.

PS: Plus, on the first year they gave me a *really* expensive gold-rated lock for free.

Try Laka. I was with them until I got my new house insurance which came with bike cover for nothing.

Put it on the house. If they won't cover it, move to a different insurer who will.

I've looked into specialist insurance for our bikes and it's eye watering at the moment, as not enough people do it, so premiums are sky high.

I do need to have a clear-out of bikes, though!

If racing, and you want accidental damage, then look at Laka or one of the specialists. I;m with laka as they seem to be best in terms of paying out if you need them to.

Otherwise house insurance is much cheaper! About £60pa for the rest of the bikes!

In reply to Mo I give a third vote for Laka. They pay out for the value you give your bike, no depreciation unless you depreciate it yourself. I trashed the rear wheel on my MTB on the Monday and had a new wheel by Thursday, amazing service.

Interestingly, I'm currently renewing our buildings/contents insurance.

Comparison sites put the premium at ~£1200, but when I remove the bikes from the listed items, it drops to ~£500 and I could get a quote for just the bikes for ~£360, which seems a result (needs some confirmation, though).
