Synthetic sleeping bag lost its loft in storage

About two years ago I placed a clean and dry synthetic fill sleeping bag in its storage bag (not the stuff sack). I recently took the bag out of storage and found that the bag had lost most of its loft. How does this happen to a correctly stored bag?

Have you shaken it?

It needs to be 'fluffed up' (I think that's the technical term?) so that as much air can be gotten into the fill material as possible. When this is done, immediately insert a cat (several if available). After a few hours the body heat of the cat(s) will have brought the bag back to as close to the original spec as it's going to get. The cat may not want to get out if the room is cold.

Or you could just put the bag in a tumble drier for 20 mins or so on a gentle heat to help loft it (correct technical term ideally checking first to ensure no cats are inside because you dont want the driers vents to get blocked up with fur

I've tried all the usual tricks but the insulation material has completely collapsed.

In reply to kevin stephens: it's synthetic and dry so probably doesn't need tennis balls just warmth and shaking, anyway tennis balls might frighten the cats

What brand/fill out of curiosity?

Nanok of Norway, unsure of the filling material brand.

In reply to Iwan: I’ve given up on synthetic bags because the insulation loft only ever lasts a couple of years, even with latest models. I lashed out on a Crux waterproof down bag which I hope will see me out

I don't own a cat, nor would I want one in my sleeping bag.

My mother has a hot water bottle, will that do?

Good idea. I'll pop out and get one now. 👌

You lost your sleeping bag in the loft? Just shift a few more boxes, and you'll find it again.

Get the cat to help you, as she'll home in on the insulation for warmth.

As a vet, I have to tell you not to put your cat in the tumble dryer, nor the washing machine, nor yet the microwave (though apocryphally that's more often toy Poodles).

Is that because Cats like Tennis Balls?

The noise it makes is excellent for disturbing anyone working from home

No no... you put the cat in the tumble drier.  High heat.

Is the cat inside the bag alive or dead, or both?

In reply to Olaf Prot: whatever you think it is it is.

Or is it ?

Lost a lot of loft left in loft

I used to have a cat called Lottie who absolutely loved pushing inside any sleeping bag left lying around. I could probably come up with a real tongue twister.
