Following the recent death of mid Wales rock master John Sumner comes news of the death of another great.Jammy Cross wife of Sid who, until her death at the age of 93,remained one of those living legends whose activities led us back to the 'golden era' of UK exploration the 1930's.
An age when names like Kirkus,Bridge,Hargreaves,Edwards,Linell et al,reigned supreme,Jammy Cross with Sid were very much part of the 'scene' and as such were respected by their peers as Lakeland climbers from the top drawer.
In an age when women were largely considered to be an eccentric fringe in a middle class male dominated sport,Jammy Cross broke through the class and gender barriers establishing hard new routes with husband Sid and repeating many of Lakeland's hardest climbs.
Later Jammy and Sid ran the Old Dungeon Ghyll and developed it into the popular climbers pub/hotel we know today.
A great life lived to the full by a great human being.

In reply to Postmanpat:

My parents saved it for me. In my ignorance I had never heard of her, but she sounded really interesting.
