'Arrow climber. (Wall without end...)'

In reply to kms:
What is he like, hopefully he embraces all of climbing. Please tell me he does not have his head-up-the-arse like Wilson and Vallance.
Mick Ward 17 Apr 2004
In reply to JamesAllen:

'What is he like' - open, friendly, totally on the level.

'hopefully he embraces all of climbing' From (fading)memory: first E5 in Scotland, FA of cutting edge routes in the Alps, good on grit, state of the art Alpinism in Alaska and the Himalaya, F8a, shit hot boulderer, winner of the odd comp... There's probably more.

Ken Wilson can be difficult at times - it's because he cares so much.

I've never found Mark Vallance at all difficult (but admit to being hopelessly out of touch with recent events). He also cares greatly - that I assure you. Friends, rocks, The Foundry... it's so easy for us to take his innovations for granted. They involved a lot of business risk, a lot of bottle.

Hope this helps!

Best wishes,

Mick

In reply to Mick Ward:
That’s refreshing to know

Mark Vallance, is approachable, I would not say he is out of touch, but I do think he is pulled in a lot of directions.

Ken Wilson I love listening to him, anyone who gets a chance of meeting him, do. You have to hear it for yourself, but then you have to think, is this really involved in the BMC policy making.
Mick Ward 17 Apr 2004
In reply to Rob:

It's not Mark that's out of touch - it's me that's out of touch!
Mark Tolver 19 Apr 2004
In reply to kms:

Hmm... maybe, just maybe, they'll pay him enough to replace those shorts.
m@ 19 Apr 2004
In reply to Mark Tolver:

Ha ha ha ha, no chance. He'd have to have surgery to remove those, surely.

In reply to Mick Ward: mick, did you write the little thing in the climbing magazine lately? very nice
Mick Ward 19 Apr 2004
In reply to grima:

Glad you enjoyed it. I put off sending it in for quite a
while; just didn't feel up to coping with a load of hate mail
(which may yet arrive). Then one day woke up and thought,
"Don't be so cowardly!"

Many thanks for your comment. More power to yourself.

Best wishes,

Mick

One of the Manchester climbers and Stoney Middleton engine shed dossing crowd in the 70's when he made beginners like myself feel very welcome. A great bloke, congratulations.
