[100 Years of the Pinnacle Club]

'100 years of the Pinnacle Club’ showcases extracts of interviews conducted with members of the Pinnacle Club during 2020, combined with archive footage and photos. The interviews were recorded for the Pinnacle Club’s 2021 centenary, as part of a project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to bring the Club’s 100-year history to life.

Seven Club members carried out the interviews and 23 members were interviewed in all, with ages ranging from 26 to 96. The result is over 50 hours of recorded interviews, covering a climbing era from the 1940s through to the present day. The complete recordings will be housed in the British Library Sound Archive, to create the first dedicated oral collection on climbing (ref C1876). You can listen easily to over 100 short extracts from these interviews on the Club’s centenary website at pc100.org.

I'm currently indisposed due to a damaged foot so I'm bored! Saw this thread and viewed the pc100.org website. Several hours flew by, what a wonderful record and an archive to treasure. Well done all involved.

This is an inspirational introductory film but I am biased as my daughter appears briefly.

Cheers to the Pinnaclers. You are having a good start to a great Centenary.

Wonderful video: truly inspiring!  Beware the rabbit hole of the website - packed full of fascinating stuff, with links direct to the Pinnacle Club Journals.  An amazing repository.

The club's centenary was also just on BBC R4 on Broadcasting House, with three members interviewed: Gwen Moffat, Jean Drummond and Val Hennelly. Starts about 20 minutes in if you listen in on Sounds.

Thanks for highlighting this - well worth a listen! The website is also a joy to explore; the oral histories are so engaging.

Happy birthday, Pinnacle Club. Super video. A bit of cooler weather forecast this weekend, so think I might have time to explore the excellent new centenary website some more.

In reply to UKC Videos:

A marvellous job, compressing a huge amount into just 5 minutes. If I've got any reservations it is that it is almost too compressed. I'd like to see a longer, 15-minute version, for example.

In reply to Gordon Stainforth:

Glad you enjoyed it Gordon - there will be over 50 hours of voices in the British Library collection later in the year! not with pictures of course but fascinating stuff from the couple I have been involved in.  We'll flag up on our website, facebook etc and here when they are live.
