The 2018 British Bouldering Championships took place at Devonshire Green, Sheffield last weekend. A huge crowd gathered to watch the UK's top bouldering stars, as well as a number of online viewers via the BBC Sport livestream - an exciting first for UK competition coverage. Hannah Slaney and Nathan Phillips became the new 2018 champions, taking over the reign of 2017 winners Leah Crane and Tyler Landman. A number of top contenders were absent from the event due to injury and other commitments, particularly in the women's category, leaving the field relatively open.

Shauna's finger injury flared up again.

Molly Thompson Smith's injury I presume is still recovering. It was a really bad pulley injury needing surgery.

Not sure about several other top contenders though. No Michaela Tracy, no Leah Crane or Gracie Martin? Did they get knocked out earlier on or simply not compete and if so why?

In reply to stp:

Shauna was at the WC lead at Villars

Leah was in the crowd, resting up after an injury.

Michaela and Rachel were/are in Rocklands.

Molly was out with injury and along with Gracie supporting team mates at Villars.

The most important thing to remember is that competitions are fun, but climbers do get injuries, have other engagements or just don’t feel like competing.

Also Natalie kicked major bottom at the BBC’s.
