Really enjoyed this podcast and the insight into one of Britain's unsung mountain legends. I had the privilege and great good fortune to meet 'Heavy' on Skye. We'd just ran the ridge, and had celebrated with a couple of beers at the Sligachan, and had been standing outside for an hour or so hoping to hitch back to the van in Glen Brittle. Euphoria was turning to despondency as not a single vehicle had passed, and the midges were starting to make a nuisance of themselves. Four blokes came walking towards the pub, one of whom stopped to enquire 'looks like you boys have run the ridge? You'll be wanting a lift back down the Glen. Hang on here for a minute.' With that, he turned round, walked back home, and was back with his Land-rover to chauffeur us the 30mins down to our van. We were regaled throughout with tales of his amazing life and adventures, and that stupendous act of generosity to "fellow mountain-folk in need" capped off what was already a memorable day. Have a listen - what a guy!
