In some situations I would agree, but if you've ever been to Wright's you would understand why that is bollox (which i suspect by your rather ignorant statment you haven't). If you want to start a thread on general access then please do so separately.

No chance this thread is going to quickly descend into pointless bickering. Enjoy everyone!

Isn't this one basically in the landowner's back garden and so rather a special case?

Would you want people climbing in your back garden late in the evening when you're trying to get to sleep?

This isn't about the landed gentry like banning climbing on a crag miles from anywhere someone happens to own.

In reply to henwardian:

Don't be such a tw@t - the landowner reads these Forums and, is, by all accounts a reasonable chap - comments like that (while clearly not directed in person) may actually jeopardise access...

Luckily I can comment on an entirely different venue not dissimilar to Wright's, so can avoid getting personal.

This other crag is on NT land and we have access, all good. This crag literally looks down on the house behind ...if you were the nosy kind you could probably peer into their bedrooms. It's not a landed estate or country house, it's a (nice) family bungalow. Even the most hardened revolutionary socialist would likely be happy to follow the "don't be a dick" rule. But that still sometimes seems a rule some people struggle with, whether through ignorance (an education problem) or pigheadery (harder to fix).

Do your bit people, act nice, spread the word about checking access and good behaviour generally. Especially if you know people newer to the outdoors.

Reasons why you are a pillock:

1) even in the sunny uplands of Scotland (Where I assume you are referring to) you don't have access to people's gardens and I'm pretty exactly the same situation as we have in this case would apply.

2) although I suppose I'm glad someone gets some enjoyment out of this I care a lot for this piece of rock, I've spent many a sunny afternoon sitting underneath it with nothing but the screams of the nearby theme park for company, spent a lot of effort on projects there, some of which I'll never finish and god knows how long doing litter picks, tutting at piles of abandndoned finger tape, brushing overchalked holds removing invasive plant species ect. I am genuinely gutted about this especially, as unlike some other recent local bans the landowner seems to be a good guy who cares about the local environment and has genuinely engaged with climbers so your sneering comes across as pretty unpleasant.

Is this just Wright's Rocks, or is it all the other crags towards Red Road?

In reply to Gordonbp:

Just Wright's (and the minor crags either side) I think the rest are all forestry commission land, and are deep in the undergrowth away from habitation so still plenty to go at.

This is a good time if year for the Churnet, too hot for grit further north but it hasn't yet turned into a humid jungle of doom like you get in July/August.

Wow, sad to see. Quite a few incidents of removal of access happening over the last few years.
