US based Tyler Landman yesterday climbed the first ascent of one of the most infamous gritstone last great problems, Smiling Buttress, at Curbar. Tyler climbed the line above pads, having worked it on a top-rope first.
In reply to Aigen: haha cyberpunk, that will never be climbed. It was probably at least F8c on a gearless slab. I always wondered about smiling buttress, it looked so cool in the movie, I wonder what grade it will get.
There is a possibility of side runners on this one. I think the extreme difficulty has put people off more than the runout nature. it could be climbed by somebody with the ability. Anybody know of anybody who has even tried this apart from johnny?
In reply to UKC News: I seem to remember him saying sometime ago he would never be a sponsored climber again as he felt very jaded by the whole thing. My gut feeling is he won't be giving any more details, no sponsors so no pressure to share with the world. A pity really, assuming I am right
