Lovely video. Pair of heroes.

"Yeah - this is for you dad......... You could say that to me one day Craig."

"Aye."

What is it with the Lake District and cutting edge climbing dynasties, these Mathesons and Birketts? Are there any examples from elsewhere in the British Isles? I can't think of any from Scotland. Enlighten me UKC.

Doug and Uisdean Hawthorn off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others.

I don't know about 'cutting edge' but here's an example from this very parish:

Loved the video - just about enjoyed the climb (we did Leopard's Crawl and Murray's Super-direct first of all) but tiring! Ten years ago, approaching 65 - it's all been a bit downhill since then I'm afraid - clip-ups in the quarries -it's just not the same

Brilliant! Inspired to do Catacomb soon.

And have seen Rob and Craig at Dow the last two or three times I've been I think they possibly live under the stretcher box...

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions to my query: several father to son/daughter successions but I don't think any of them really match up to the dynasty status of the Mathesons and the Birketts. Three generations each climbing at or near the top standard of their day. Deepsoup's very nice example was the only other three generation story, but much more gently geared. Any more British and Irish climbing dynasties? Or any mother and daughter successions?

Seems to me that the three generations story of the Mathesons, part captured in this video, is pretty rare - it should be properly celebrated.
