Lake District climbing has been hitting the headlines over the past couple of weeks and rightly so. Neil Gresham's new line Lexicon at Pavey Ark continues a strong Lakeland tradition of bold, intimidating climbing that began decades ago. One of the pioneers of the scene, Rob Matheson, has been looking back at climbs he did in the '70s; imposing and inspiring lines such as Paladin, which he repeated last year, and more recently Holocaust at Dow Crag.

Great climbing apart, what this film shows most clearly is the incredible quality of the rock.

I agree, and it's remarkable how phone cameras have improved, to produce such clear images.

Excellent. Very impressive Rob doing it after 50 years, you are climbing really well.

That looked a mean crux, and having to hang on the crimp to fix the runner. Great stuff. Old 'uns have the best fun, but why pick such a hot day?

I did my ML at Ghyll Head, back in the early 70s with a mate of yours Rob, Stu Colvin. He was raving about some of the climbs that you were doing at the time.

As others have rightly said, great video. That crux looks mean! Was there any particular reason why it was called Holocaust? I've always wondered.
