[Stewart Watson climbing Mordor - F8c+/9a, 3 kb]

British climber Stewart Watson has succeeded on his hardest route yet with an ascent of Mordor (F8c+/9a) at Niederthai, Austria.

"After two years of attempts I finally climbed the route on Sunday the 6th of September and I'm sure that you could hear my cries of joy in the UK!"

Fantastic news and a great achievement - Stewart joins a what must be very small number of British climbers operating at that level!

In reply to UKC News: years ago when Stew was a young teenager I used to boulder with him at Leeds Wall occasionally. In the end, I started setting him on boulder-problems that I made up to be impossible, just to set him up to fail. Despite my best efforts, he always managed them anyway.
