Robbie Phillips - El Nino, 3 kbIn May last year, Jacob Cook and Robbie Phillips repeated El Niño 5.13c (8a+) on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Really enjoyed that. Is that hail?

To a newcomer to climbing what does free climbed indicate?

In reply to Thelittlesthobo:

"Free climbing"... It can get complicated to define but basically indicates that at the climber climbs the rock and doesn't "cheat" by pulling on the rope and equipment which it used only to catch a fall. If a climber does fall he should return to the start of the section or "pitch" of the climb and try to do it without falling.

Thanks for that. I had it in my head that free climb was without ropes. I must admit I wasn't expecting it on this climb
Just read the soloing article. My mistake.

Is there a name for doing it without having multiple goes at the section? Has it been done? Is that a ridiculous question

That's a common assumption often made in mainstream media too.
Doing it first time is a FLASH.
Better than that is ONSIGHT which is doing first time without any prior knowledge (i.e not watching how your mate does the tricky bits before you try it).
