It's been 3 years since I've last climbed..... ( feel free to abuse me later)
Taking a trip to the local indoor wall on Friday.Question on my mind is, would my own harness be safe after that time?

Not like it's been holding bikes up against walls or stored in a damp hole.

What's the general consensus?

In reply to Carpe Diem: Depends how much it was abused before that. If it looks OK it should be OK. Manufacturers suggest 5 years for "software" but to be honest I've got harnesses older than that and they don't worry me at all.

In reply to Carpe Diem: if the harness is 3 years old then yes, it should be fine! I think manufacturers say 5 years as a general rule for 'soft' goods, but in practice use your own judgement as it's my suspicion that this general rule is conservative.

In reply to GridNorth:

It had regular use, and only one real ' Whipper' moment. Think I actually bought it 1998 or so ?

In reply to Carpe Diem:

I doubt it would let you down but why not treat yourself? I expect harnesses have come a long way in 14 yrs.

In reply to Carpe Diem:

I think the harness I currently use at the wall is 15 years old.

In reply to Carpe Diem:

Any nagging doubt about it probably answers the question for you.

In reply to Carpe Diem: I have to admit to being a little concerned when I see some old geezer turn up in a Whillans harness.
