I sprained my thumb about a week ago. The swelling and bruise is just about under control, but looking for further advice on pain reduction and mobilisation (or whether I shouldn't be doing much with it). Cant find any other info on older forums. Thanks for any pearls of wisdom.

Bad luck on hurting your thumb! Just to say it may be worth getting a professional opinion on what damage you have done.  I failed to do that when I simultaneously hurt both thumbs 20+ years' ago and am paying the price now as it turns out I had totally ruptured the ligaments in both.  These could have been stitched back together immediately after the accident whereas repair at this stage, when I am having increasing problems, will be more tricky - to the extent that some parties think I should have the joints fused.

Good luck with it.

Thanks. Might arrange a physio appmt in the coming week if no improvement.

If you bent your thumb back, it may require immobilisation for a while. I slipped on ice some 25 years ago and was put in plaster for 4 weeks. Worth seeing a doctor.
