Time between resets

What do you consider a reasonable time between route resets for top rope / autobelays?

Now at 4 months for some routes at my local wall.

So, routes I've climbed to boredom now and filthy, with four months accumulated chalk and rubber.

That seems too long to me but I'm wondering what is a reasonable change over rate?

Pfft, there’s some at a wall a climb at that have been there for over 2 years. With all the chalk and rubber on them they’re nowhere near their original grade!

Obviously that’s a bit extreme but it’s a very quiet wall. At a wall with a normal amount of traffic, maybe 3 months would be about right?

I think it depends on the size of the venue. 50 lines with 3 routes on each, reset 3 times a year = 450 annual climbs

If that was a wall with 25 lines that's only 225 climbs.

Maybe that's why some people prefer Horseshoe Quarry's sport lines over Stanage's trad?

Every time I visit Horseshoe there's been a reset as another section falls down.

If you only manage three or four visits to a wall per year (like me last year) then every visit has new routes!
